Spotlight on our collection of Portrait Paintings
This week we would like to share with you our current collection of European oil paintings.
These works span the 18th to the mid 19th centuries, with a particular emphasis on portraiture and a taste for exotic and unusual subjects.
Our current collection of paintings, pictured below, includes:
A French School oil portrait of a lady as the Magdalene, by a 17th century artist from the circle of Jean Nocret (c.1615-1672), a notable portrait painter at the court of Louis XIV.
A fine oil portrait study of a Muslim youth, executed by an artist working in the circle of William Etty (British, 1787-1849), possibly during a trip to India or the Middle East.
An impressive Neo-classical portrait of Socrates, painted in Rome in the late 18th century by by a talented artist influenced by the classicism of Jacques-Louis David (1748-1825).
